Kristjan Koren, a racer from Slovenia will join in the World Championships in Geelong, Australia this October 3 along with his newfound confidence. His very first professional win was the GP Camaiore yesterday versus his Italian competitors.

Koren, currently 23 years old, won versus Italian Champion Giovanni Visconti (ISD-Neri) as well as Francesco Ginanni (Androni) in a 100 meters race. According to Paolo Bettini, the national sports director, it was a sad result for both Italians who didn’t win the race. Just last month, Koren rode his first Grand Tour with the support of Ivan Basso and even featured in an escape on the stage to Tourmalet.

Last Tuesday night, one winning streak ended as Hungary together with Slovenia are the only teams with the undefeated teams within Division I Group B. During the first two periods, the Slovenian team was faster, trickier as well as their passes are more dangerous with more shots on goal. The result finished with a score of 2-0 for Slovenia. During the third period, Great Britain utilized a power play which let them scored 3 goals while Slovenia was only able to score one with a result of 3:3.

The Great Britain team led Slovenia into an overtime however the Slovenian team got their third win thanks to Ziga Jeglic’s goal at 61:40. The game was recognized as a well deserved win considering how well the game was played yet this time, the Slovenian team really had a hard time and increased patience just to win over the British team and at the same time protect their cage. The Slovenian team will now move to Germany next month for the elite World championships versus the teams from Canada, USA, Russia as well as Sweden. At present, the Slovenian team needs to face South Korea as well as their counter attacks.
