Last Friday, during the consolidation game for the World Championship, Spain won over Slovenia with 97-80 wherein Spain utilized the fourth quarter to win. Juan Carlos Navarro from Spain scored 26 points. The reign of Spain in this World Championship ended when they loss to Serbia last Wednesday during the quarterfinals. The Spaniards landed 5th with another triumph.

Goran Dragic together with Jaka Lakovic scored 19 points for Slovenia, which will be playing for the seventh place. On the other hand, Rudy Fernandez and Fran Vazquez each scored 16 points for Spain.

Goran Dragic, from Phoenix Suns scored 18 points thus letting Slovenia get into the elimination round of the World Championship. Slovenia won with a 65-60 victory versus Iran last Thursday.

Slovenia (4-1) were winners of their last three games right after losing to the United States to get the no.2 seed from Group B. Slovenia will now be competing with Australia, the No. 3 seed from Group A this coming Sunday.

Just last Monday’s World Championship game, Slovenia (2-1) won over Croatia (1-2) with a score of 91-84. Uros Slokar together with Jaka Lakovic scored 15 points each.

Slovenia was able to take the lead when Miha Zupan shot 3 points during the 6:33 remaining time. It was then followed by a lay – up by Samo Udrih and Lakovic shooting 3 points too. This made the score 77-71 with just 5:04 time remaining.

Slovenia won the game versus Croatia by doing their best not to let Croatia get any closer to their score. Slovenian fans surely were delighted with such a favorable event.

The Slovenian team is currently looking forward to at least reaching the knockout stages for this year’s FIBA World Championship.

The Slovenian national team was able to join the semi-finals during the EuroBasket 2009 and must reach this year’s FIBA World Championship with enough confidence. Based from Slovenia’s performances, a lot of viewers believe they can reach the latter stages in Turkey though this would be surely a tough game.
