Last Monday, a dual grave coming from the 4th century BC was revealed at the archaeological site close to the city of Novo mesto in the Dolenjsko region. Archaeologists assume that the grave contained both a man and woman who were buried together.
There were no skeletal remains found within the grave so the archaeologists based their assumption on the objects they obtained from the grave. These are very rare findings especially within the Halstatt culture area. According to the head of the excavations named Borut Kriz from Dolenjska Museum, the said grave consists of objects like glass, amber beads, clay pots as well as weapons
It continues to be a dispute why double burials are done that is said to be part of rituals in the past as recorded by Herodot, the Father of History. The Kapiteljska field wherein a lot of graves were discovered is full of archaeological sites. Just within three decades of deep excavation 36 sepulchral mounds, 300 Late-Bronze-Age urns and 700 Halstatt urns had been discovered.
This said excavation is sponsored by the Municipality of Novo Mesto as well as the Ministry of Culture. This performed by the people from Dolenjska Museum. The President of Slovenia, Danilo Tuerk has already seen this said excavation site.
