Krsko Nuclear Plant, Slovenia’s only nuclear power plant recently shutdown early this week because of some minor incident. However, it has failed to restart last Thursday due to certain technical problems. According to Ida Novak Jerele, the spokeswoman of the said plant, the system switched off last Wednesday due to an electrical power problem and last Thursday, it failed to restart as planned. But, there is no danger related to the failed restart of Krsko.
Furthermore, the spokeswoman claimed that there were “synchronization” problems discovered that’s why it failed to restarted. There were also “deviations” in the plant’s lubrication oil systems that added to the problem.
Slovenia’s only nuclear power plant was established in 1983 by Westinghouse and was both owned by Slovenia and Croatia. It currently has 2,000 megawatt reactor. The last problem encountered by the plant was in June 2008 wherein there was a faulty valve that led to a water leak causing increase alarms within Europe.
Various environmentalists have pushed the closure of the plant before its scheduled shut down this 2023, yet the Slovenian government is planning to build another reactor this coming 2013.

Architect Jure Kotnik of Slovenia recently designed the added extension of a Kindergarten situated in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Kindergarten Kekec contains rotating vertical rotating shutters over the facade with the shutters painted with bright colours. It took three days for the architects to build this structure which is made from prefabricated wood.
According to the architect, the building was inspired from the lack of play equipment within the said Kindergarten. They are able to overcome the problem through adding playful elements in the building’s exterior.

The Institute for Vedic Culture referred to as Gopuram has been recently launched in Slovenia to help in the conservation of the Vedic heritage and spread it within Slovenia as well as other countries. It was launched by the sister-brother team of Emilija Kercan and Vojko Kercan in Ljubljana, the capital and biggest city that aims in raising the awareness regarding the Vedic culture together with its universal message and recitation of Vedas through seminars, workshops, conferences, lectures, and the like.

A group of 8 Slovenian car companies were established in Ljubljana to decrease the R&D investment risks and at the same time stick with the trends with the global car industry. The said group is called SiEVA consortium which includes the following car companies: Hidria, Cimos, Kolektor, Iskra Avtoelektrika, Iskra Mehanizmi, MLM, Polycom and TPV. The word SiEVA actually stands for ‘synergetic, environmentally friendly, safe car’.
The group will do its best for the development of internal combustion engines, hybrids and electric engines, passenger safety and comfort, and production excellence. They have invested around 20 million euros for the said project hoping that they will get back the same amount by a public call for applications for development centres. At present, SiEVA is projected to makes 1,500 jobs as well as 20 new patent solutions for state-of-the-art environmentally friendly vehicles. The new company will be employing around 50 top development experts for this project.

A World War II new mass grave has been found in a covered-up wartime trench as claimed by a Slovenian officer in charge of exhumations. This grave contains the remains of victims who died after World War II by antifascists.
Authorities have begun to examine the 120-meter-long or 400-foot-long by 3.5-meter-long or 11.5-feet-wide trench located in the village of Mostec according to Marko Strovs. They will continue to investigate until they will be able to determine the number of bodies buried in the said grave.

Slovenia was one route to the West for Nazi collaborators coming from Yugoslavia who tried to run away after the war reprisals. At present, there are about twelve mass graves found.
